This Sunday, October 16th, starting at 10am, Ty Marshal will unveil the Syracuse Cardiff Giant at Lipe Art Park! Come check out what everyone is talking about in Syracuse.

Here is a little more info:
“There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute: Re-creating the Cardiff Giant” is a project by Syracuse Artist Ty Marshal which re-creates the Cardiff Giant according to the original size specifications. Ty will be using Hypertufa, a mix of Portland cement, peat moss, and perlite (which creates a “lighter concrete” that can withstand harsh weather conditions). The project’s focus defines a lineage to Central New York’s history as a creative community, how religious fundamentalism has affected modern culture in Upstate New York and throughout the nation, and the origin of arts and entertainment (notably “pop culture”) in the United States, and how arts and culture serves as an economic engine.

About lipeartpark
Formally an abandoned train yard, Lipe Art Park is located along West Fayette Street in the Warehouse District of Syracuse, New York and is now the city's first art park and public green space open to the community for personal recreation and public gatherings, and for the development of, display, performance and appreciation of all forms of art, in order to facilitate public/community engagement with the ecological and cultural life of the city and beyond. The park's first exhibition was curated by Evolution Studios in June 2006 and featured a collection of artwork from emerging, mid-career, and established artists. The park's second exhibit was titled agriCULTURE from the farm to the city, and opened on October 21, 2007. agriCULTURE, an exhibition of images, essences, evocations, and ideas from the farm environment presented in an outdoor urban setting, was organized by S.U. VPA Professor, Dennis Earle and Landscape Designer and Planner, Jeanie Gleisner.
Lipe Art Park is a unique asset in Syracuse, New York; it is a place where people can gather and recreate in the presence of grass, flowers and trees, but also engage in dialogue with artists and other community members on issues, ideas, feelings and experiences. This unique green space, gathering place, and art venue has great promise, and with your creative response to this RFP, you have an opportunity to contribute to the enrichment of this resource, and to make an impact on the community. We [Friends of Lipe Art Park] want that impact, and look forward to learning about the ideas of those who want to take advantage of what Lipe Art Park offers.
