Over the past few years, Lipe Art Park has seen many successful shows and installations. Below is a list of the major installations from newest to oldest, not including all the one time events that have been held in the park. As you can see, some great art has inhabited this little sliver of land in the city of Syracuse.
Drawing Air by Andy Schuster. “Drawing in Air” was a series of large 3-dimensional forms that were more sketch than sculpture, that transformed visually as one passes by. The loose, impermanent nature of these sculptures highlighted the fragile in-between of a park in an industrial surrounding.
ArtPlay by Alex SLota and Chelsea O. Cramer. Slota exhibited five enormous inflatable sculptures that spanned more than forty feet in diameter and were illuminated in the evening. The pieces were intended to be exhibited in a public space where the viewers could freely interact with the art and share the artist’s journey to be formless and undefined. Cramer’s projects, “Ode to Froebel,” explored the simplicity of shapes and the room they leave for creativity and exploration. Her “Public Chalkboards” served to promote community dialogue and idea exchange.
agriCULTURE! from the farm to the city by Jeannie Gleisner and Dennis Earle. opened on October 21, 2007 and was an exhibition of images, essences, evocations, and ideas from the farm environment presented in an outdoor urban setting.
Opening Showcase at Lipe Art Park, organized and curated by Ty Marshal featured artists: Carol Adamec, Angelo Puccia, Joseph Deverell, Martine Kaczynski, David Brown, Andrew Schuster, Cahbasm, Anne Novado-Cappuccilli, Alejandro Betancourt, Liam Devowski, Steve Stone, East Coast Decorative Concrete, and Children from the Spanish Action League, Peace Incorporated, and Peaceful Schools, Inc particpated by creating mosaic stepping stones for the garden.
The Victorian Gardens were created by the Green Space Committee and have largely been maintained by Steve Kearney, Jeannie Gleisner and Dennis Earle.
Every day I drive past your Lipe Art Park, usually about 4 times. One day my wife and I were debating S.U. involvment. After looking up your web site,I was happy to find they were not.
While on your site I was amazed to findout the white structure is a shark, coulda fooled me.
I am curious about one other thing, those blue and black lines running along the fence. If the big white thing is a shark, what the hell is along the fence.
Over all i think park is fine.I dont pretend to understand it but it looks a lot better than old tires ,trash and unmowed grass.
